Nursing is indeed love in action.
The International Nurses's Unit's role is to serve the church by providing a health ministry which promotes holistic health and healing. We must set forth principles and guidelines to build up the health ministries and to edify the church. Our goal is for the saints of the Grand Ole Church of God in Christ to prosper in health as their souls prosper (III John 2).

Nurse's Unit:
A group of health care workers who are appointed to look out for the safety and well-being of church members in matters related to health when attending Church functions. This included rending first aid and emergency care to injured or ill individuals and providing comfort and care to grieving families at funerals. Nurses must have knowledge of local resources to refer members as needed for specialty or social support services.

Purpose of the Nurse's Unit

  1. Expedite health and safety matters for the saints while attending church services
  2. Assist ill, disabled, saints or family members to find appropriate local social support or other health resources.
  3. Provide comfort and first aid to bereaved saints and family members during wakes and funeral services.
  4. Provide workshops and classes related to health and first aid as often as possible. Secure other professional to present topics related to their particular disciples.
  5. Assist ushers and security in maintaining a safe environment during services.
  6. Assess and keep reports on all injuries or events

Membership Qualifications

  1. The personnel of theirs Unit shall consist of adult volunteers who express a desire to be useful in the service provided by the Unit.
  2. Volunteers trained in Nursing or some other relevant aspect of Medical, Professional/Vocational or Allied Health disciplines, which qualifies them to recognize life threatening symptoms, ominous health presentations, imminent danger or threat to others, including outbreak of any communicable or contagious disease. Volunteers must be able to complete the Nurse' Unit Incident report, including Nurses Unit Incident Report writing, including the use of appropriate medical terminology and legible handwriting.
  3. Volunteers may be licensed, certified or documented to have completed the course of study tat qualifies them to also recognize signs and symptoms of physical distress and illness. Including taking and assessing vital signs and performing focus physical examination.
  4. Persons who are not members of the "Church Of God in Christ may volunteer and serve on the unit, at the discretion of the President of the Unit.
  5. Any volunteer completing a course in First Aid, Cardiac Pulmonary Requisition (CPR) evident by a current card and have a desire or interest in health care. Volunteers that can manage protocols of Transfer of care to on duty Local Emergency Medical Services personnel.
  6. Applicants desiring to service on the International Nurses' Unit may be referred, recommended or assigned by their Jurisdictional Prelate and/or Supervisor. The privilege to function as part of this volunteer service may br granted or denied by the President of the Unit, or her representative.

Uniforms

Nurse no longer wear white uniforms with caps in the general health care environment Caps are not safe and serve no function. The public is no longer accustomed to seeing caps when they visit health care facilities. Therefore, the Nurses Unit members will dress in designated uniforms to represent the profession of nursing and to distinguish themselves from ushers who wear white uniforms and caps.

Members of the Nurses' Unit will wear a Red or Royal Blue Blazer with a white skirt or dress and comfortable white shoes. Physicals/physician extenders will wear wear a white lab coat over regular clothing while on duty. Red blazers shall be worn on official days and blue blazers on unofficial days. The Jurisdiction has the right to designate particular uniforms for their members when are required. nurses's should wear limited jewelry while on duty, including small earrings and more that one bracket are inappropriate. If nurses are not willing to abide by the uniform code, they should not serve. It is imperative that a professional presentation be maintained at all times.
